Mentoring the Junior Women of Initiative
The Junior Women of Initiative (JWOI) Mentoring Program was launched in 2005. A decade later, the growth and impact of this program has been significant and very rewarding. The program inspires and connects 15-20 women mentors with young, at-risk mentees, ages 13-17.
Bi-monthly sessions cover topics relevant to teens of today. In addition to the classroom experience, the mentees also spend time engaging with the mentors during field trips.
The result is an experience that helps develop peer relationships amongst the young women and bonds between the mentees and their mentors. The experiences empower the mentees – and their mentors – in a variety of ways that make a lasting, very positive impact.
Mentors are asked to commit to a minimum of 4-5 sessions, and are encouraged to consider leading a session.
